(Bloomberg) – House Republicans introduced legislation today that seeks to force major changes at the United Nations, using as leverage the threat to withhold some of the U.S.’s 22 percent contribution to the world body’s operating budget.
The bill by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the Republican chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, would demand that the UN let countries decide how much to pay and which programs they will support, rather than assessing payments based on a formula. It would end funding for Palestinian refugees, limit use of U.S. funds to only purposes outlined by Congress and put a hold on creating or expanding peacekeeping operations until management changes are made.
“We need a UN which will advance the noble goals for which it was founded,” Ros-Lehtinen of Florida said in a statement.“The current UN continues to be plagued by scandal, mismanagement and inaction, and its agenda is frequently hijacked by rogue regimes which protect each other while targeting free democracies like the U.S. and Israel.”
Republicans are moving against the world body at a time when the Obama administration is increasingly building its foreign policy around multilateral institutions, such as the alliance-based approach on Libya.
The bill, which has 57 co-sponsors who are all Republicans, may advance in the Republican-controlled House. It is likely to face opposition in the Senate and from President Barack Obama. Continue Reading…

The manufacturer of rooftop solar panels opened in 2005 and in 2009 became the Obama administration’s first recipient of an energy loan guarantee — a $535 million federal commitment that helped minimize the risk to venture capital firms that were backing the solar start-up. Obama made a personal visit to the factory last year to herald its bright future.
ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity’s iWatch News first reported on questions about the choice of Solyndra for the loan in May after the Department of Energy disclosed it was being forced to restructure its loan package for the company, which was showing early signs of financial distress. One of Solyndra’s major investors was George Kaiser, an Oklahoma billionaire who raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama during the 2008 election.
“I think what happens is they give some of this money out to people who are either contributors or strong supporters,” Rep. Cliff Stearns, a Florida Republican who chairs a House Energy subcommittee that has led a probe into the Solyndra deal, had said before Solynda’s closing. “I think in the long term we have to worry about the United States government guaranteeing loans for businesses based perhaps upon favoritism.” Continue Reading…..
“Just 880 megawatts out of 10,135 megawatts of wind capacity — 8.68 percent — was actually moving electrons when consumers needed those electrons the most.
Consider what might be happening had the state kept the $6.79 billion it’s now spending on wind-energy transmission lines and instead allocated it to new natural-gas-fired generators.”
(NCPA) – Last Wednesday brought yet another unspeakably hot day to Texas and, alas, it was yet another day when wind energy failed the state’s consumers, says Robert Bryce, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.
Texas has 10,135 megawatts of installed wind-generation capacity, which is nearly three times as much as any other state.
And yet, last week, when the state’s electricity demand hit 66,552 megawatts, all of the state’s wind turbines mustered just 880 megawatts of power when electricity was needed the most.
Put another way, even though wind turbines account for about 10 percent of Texas’ 103,000 megawatts of summer electricity-generation capacity, wind energy
was able to provide just 1.3 percent of the juice the state needed last Wednesday afternoon.
None of this should be surprising.
For years, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has counted just 8.7 percent of the state’s installed wind-generation capacity as “dependable capacity at peak.”
What happened last week?
Just 880 megawatts out of 10,135 megawatts of wind capacity — 8.68 percent — was actually moving electrons when consumers needed those electrons the most.
Consider what might be happening had the state kept the $6.79 billion it’s now spending on wind-energy transmission lines and instead allocated it to new natural-gas-fired generators.
The latest data from the Energy Information Administration show that building a megawatt of new wind capacity costs $2.43 million — up 21 percent over the year-earlier costs — while a new megawatt of gas-fired capacity costs a bit less than $1 million, a drop of 3 percent from year-earlier estimates.
Under that scenario, Texas could have built 6,900 megawatts of new gas-fired capacity for what the state is now spending on wind-related transmission lines alone.

It is not the Tea Party who is racist, it is the Black Caucus. The Black Caucus is trying to ready its constituency for the coming 2012 presidential election by pulling the race card and spewing hate speech. They will throw everything at the wall in hopes that something will stick. This is just the beginning. It will be a very bumpy ride in the coming months.
Michelle Obama gave a Gibson guitar to France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in 2009.
Will Eric Holder demand that France’s first lady turn over her guitar to the DOJ as evidence because of the ongoing witch hunt of Gibson Guitars?
(Gibson) – American First Lady Michelle Obama presented France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, with a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar “as a sign of friendship” over theweekend. The two first ladies met for the first time on Friday afternoon when President Barack Obama and his wife visited French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife at French Palace Rohan in Strasbourg, France.
Mrs. Obama presented Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy with the Gibson guitar on Saturday before the first ladies visited the Cathedral de Norte Dame de Strasbourg, along
with the rest of the NATO Summit spouses. The Gibson Hummingbird apparently hit the right chord with Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy, as the Mrs. Obama’s office reported
that the two women really hit it off and enjoyed a private lunch together that lasted for more than one hour.
Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy is a former model, and is also a singer/songwriter. She has released three albums, the last of which, As If Nothing Happened, was released in July 2008. She plays acoustic guitar on many of her songs.

Definition of statism - the principle or policy of concentrating extensive economic, political, and related controls in the state at the cost of individual liberty
START CONNECTING THE DOTS! Obama’s regime is destroying our Republic in order to set-up a socialistic society!
(recorded July 2007) UPDATE!!! (8/29/2011) NLRB Voted to eliminate Secret Ballot Protections on 8/26/2011!!! Dana is overruled — and the decision is applied retroactively to bar even elections that have already been held but not counted. So much for the sanctity of the secret ballot election.
(NRTW) – Washington, DC (August 30, 2011) – Today, Barack Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) overturned its Dana Corp. decision, in which National Right to Work Foundation attorneys secured for employees the right to challenge union card check organizing campaigns with a secret ballot vote.
Under the Foundation-won Dana decision, workers may collect signatures to request a secret ballot election during a 45-day window period following notice that their employer has recognized a union based on a card check organizing drive. The ruling is intended to counteract coercive practices frequently associated with card check, which allow organizers to bully or mislead employees into signing cards that count as “votes” toward unionization.
The NLRB overturned Dana just as President Obama-appointed NLRB Chairwoman Wilma Liebman’s term expired. Meanwhile, Obama-appointed Board Member Craig Becker, who co-authored a union brief in the original Dana case, refused to recuse himself from the case. Becker, a recess nominee, faces bi-partisan opposition to his confirmation in the U.S. Senate. One Board Member, Bryan Hayes, vigorously dissented and called the ruling a blatant roll back of employee freedom.
Any decertification votes that have been cast but not counted by the NLRB will now be discounted, thereby invalidating the voice of thousands of workers nationwide. Continue Reading…..
Sport-utility vehicles may be on the verge of becoming passé here in the U.S., but there’s apparently room for growth in global markets where an inbred fascination with big trucks is not part of the culture. According to Bloomberg News, demand for upscale SUVs has nearly doubled since 2000 with high-end carmakers actively targeting what’s become a lucrative market segment.
It’s debatable whether getting into the people-mover business might sully either Maserati or Bentley’s top-shelf image, but selling the Cayenne hasn’t seemed to hurt Porsche’s sports-car credibility despite being responsible for roughly half of the company’s sales. Likewise, Mercedes-Benz makes bushels of money selling no less than five SUVs alongside its luxury cars – including the
army surplus-styled $107,100 G-Class – and Land Rover has had no trouble attracting affluent motorists to its overpriced wagons over the years.

Maserati reportedly plans to build its first-ever SUV here in the U.S. at Chrysler Group LLC’s Jefferson North assembly plant alongside the vehicle upon which it will be based, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both Maserati and Chrysler are operated by the Fiat Group, with this being but one step in the ongoing integration of the automakers’ various brands.
Selling what will essentially be a Maserati-fied Grand Cherokee to well-heeled buyers here and elsewhere in the world may not be as much of a challenge as one might think. It’s well known that the aforementioned Cayenne shares much of its design and engineering DNA with its proletarian cousin, the Volkswagen Touareg, and that hasn’t seemed to drive away many potential Porsche buyers.
Obviously the Maserati version would have to carry strong brand-specific styling cues – we guess it would look something like our ersatz Photoshopped rendering above. It would also have to back up the brand’s nameplate with sufficient luxury and performance to help convince well-heeled buyers they’re not just getting a nicer Jeep. Commandeering the Grand Cherokee SRT8 version’s gutsy 470-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 engine and the vehicle’s superior Terrain Management 4X4 system would obviously be steps in the right direction. Another great Chicago event to encourage tourism!
(Rebel Pundit) – In June we reported on newly elected Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel using his clout to bring the 28-member NATO meeting and G-8 Summit to town in 2012. Also, in bringing the meetings to Chicago, the city will likely be confronted with the usual large-scale protests, which are most often comprised of violent anarchist revolutionaries.
The Chicago Tribune is now reporting that activists in Chicago are indeed planning large-scale demonstrations in Chicago, and have filed requests with the city to obtain protest permits.
From the Trib:
Activists are planning massive demonstrations to coincide with the G8 and NATO summits in Chicago scheduled for spring 2012, with crowds of protesters likely to reach “tens of thousands,” organizers said.
More than 160 members representing about 50 groups from across the U.S. and Canada gathered Sunday at the Chicago-Kent College of Law to discuss strategy and start planning two large-scale protests and a march during the weeklong joint summit, which is set for mid-May 2012.
Chicago could see crowds of protesters similar to the 35,000 or so activists who descended on St. Paul, Minn., during the 2008 Republican National Convention, said Joe Lombardo, co-coordinator for the New York-based United National Anti-War Committee.
Chicago activist Joe Iosbaker, who helped organize the RNC protests in 2008, and radical gay rights and anti-war activist Andy Thayer, whose homes were raided by FBI agents in October 2010 for suspected ties to funding Hamas and other terrorist organizations, are helping to organize the protests.
According to the Trib, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy recently stated that the department is preparing for “mass arrests” of protesters during the summit.

Judicial Watch is a public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption. Tom Fitton, the President of Judicial Watch, works tirelessly to seek out and stop corruption in our government. Talk about job security, he will never run out of work! The Department of Justice alone will keep him busy until the day he retires.
(Big Government) -” On August 19, we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Obama U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to obtain records related to the agency’s communications with Estelle Rogers, a former ACORN attorney who currently serves as the Director of Advocacy for the ACORN-connected organization Project Vote, President Obama’s former employer.
Judicial Watch is investigating the extent to which the Obama DOJ and Project Vote are partnering in a national campaign to use the National Voting Rights Act (NVRA) to register more individuals on public assistance, widely considered a key voting block for the Obama 2012 campaign.
Here’s what we’re after with our FOIA request filed on June 23, 2011: “All records of communications between the Department of Justice and Estelle Rogers, Director of Advocacy for Project Vote. The timeframe for this request is January 2, 2009, to June 23, 2011.”
The DOJ was required by law to respond to Judicial Watch’s FOIA request within 30 working days, or by August 5, 2011. (U.S. Postal Service records indicate the DOJ received Judicial Watch’s request on June 28, 2011.) As of the lawsuit’s filing, the DOJ has neither produced the records requested nor responded with the date when they will be forthcoming. (Nothing new there.)
Now, we already know that Project Vote is corrupt. We also know that the organization is putting a full-court press on key swing states to manipulate voter registration laws in order to “get out the vote” for Obama and the Democrats in 2012. And leading that charge is Estelle Rogers.
Rogers, a former attorney for ACORN, is a primary contact person on policy matters at Project Vote on both state and federal levels and has been actively involved in voter registration issues. By threatening lawsuits under Section 7 of the NVRA, Project Vote has aggressively sought to force election officials in various states to increase the registration of people receiving public assistance. (Under Section 7, states are required to offer voter registration services at all public assistance agencies, including unemployment offices and food stamp offices.)
And this corrupt campaign is working.” Continue Reading…
